Critical Mass Tonight!
Apologies for the late notice but tonight at 5:30pm at the Guildhall will be the meet up point for the last Critical Mass cycling event in Portsmouth this year. Critical Mass events have been sucessful all over the world in recent years and this one aims to highlight the benefits of cycling for the city of Portsmouth and it’s citizens and the environment as a whole.

Civilisation Of The Rough’s ‘Educating You Up Stairs’
The launch night of Civilisation Of The Rough’s ‘Educating You Up Stairs’ parties is swiftly approaching. As mentioned previously these parties are to raise funds to give parts of Albert Road a bit of an artistic facelift. The launch night is in the newly renovated upstairs of the Wine Vaults on the 29th of November and will feature Rosko Siffredi, Leon Windsor, Mark Persaud, Matt Seeney, Percy Fox, Steve Laming & Mick Hook on DJ duties. Tickets are £5 Tickets and available from either the Wine Vaults and from HEAD in Albert Road.

Southsea Skatepark Fundraiser 2
The Durty Sound System Block Party are back again for their 2nd fundraiser at Havana and it should be a damn good one, if last years is anything to go by. Backed by Bored, Sumo, King Street Tavern, Lovenskate and many more this event is an important date in the calendar.
Click the read more link to see the full flyer and put your pennies towards a good cause.
Love Life
Love Life is a charity fund raising pub quiz about graphic design that will be on the 11th December in the Fat Fox. As well as the quiz there will be DJs and a raffle and loads of prizes such as design books, limited edition screenprints, t-shirts, etc. It’s £2 per person and all money raised goes to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in memory of Alex Matthews, be sure to make it down there and show your support.
For more info check the poster or hit up the Love Life Facebook group.

Southsea Gallery, Albert Road
Only in it’s infancy, Southsea Gallery has already established the top floor of Cafe Citrus as Southsea’s first photographic gallery and has seen some good trading in their shop on Albert Road, just a few doors down.
Proprietors Paul and Sarah are really nice people and I advise going for a look around and a chat, especially if you’re a local photographer or artist.
This is another step forward for both Albert Road and the city and Paul hopes to see more galleries in the future. We’ll keep you posted with any new exhibitions coming up and you never know, maybe myself and Gonz could be gracing the walls of Cafe Citrus in the future!
You can contact the Southsea Gallery at mail@southseagallery.co.uk
Ban On BBQs On The Common?
Hard to believe but the Council are making sneaky moves to try and ban BBQs on the Common. Luckily the good people of Southsea and Portsmouth as a whole are rallying together to kill the proposal dead. For full details (including the quite ridiculous reasons and underhanded methods by the Council), latest news on progress and the email address of the Councillor to complain to direct join the Facebook petition group that are leading the cause. The group has well over 3,000 people after only a few days but the more people who sign up the better so pass the news and the link to the group on to your friends, family, work buddies, etc.
Do we really want an end to this?

DJ Cash Money at Little Johnny Russell
We plugged this event the other week and said it was going to go off and we were right, how could we be wrong really. Cash Money flew from Philly and hit LJR hard. Gentle Bren warmed everyone up with a seriously heavy set and proceeded to hand over to Cash Money to shut the place down.
Everyone was in attendance that night and the dance floor got smashed, massively. Yet again, big thanks to the boys at LJR, keep them coming and go get your tickets for Simian Mobile Disco on December 6th.
Cash Money even popped in to Bored to pick up some new sneaks.
Southsea Music Festival 2008
Remember that music festival that was on down Albert Road a while back where you could walk in and out of the Fat Fox, Wedgewood Rooms, LJRs, etc? We found a roll of film from that day, here are a few of the photos. Really hoping they’ll organise another day like that soon.

Freestylin’
I’m not a BMXer and only cruised on my Raleigh Burner to get to skate spots when I was young, but i’ve always had huge admiration the those guys. They’re freakin’ nuts. I remember Freestylin’ mag when I was younger and would always have a flick through if I could. I loved the whole style thing surrounding BMXing in the 80′s. Mag wheels, crazy colour co-ordinated bikes and big attitude.
Well, you can relive all the that, at least to a visual extent, in the form of the Freestylin’ book. Some of you may have already seen this but may not know you can download the 158 page PDF here.
Go straight to page 106 for an article on Craig Campbell at Southsea Skatepark. Sick.
C.O.R./Albert Road/Mural/Parties
A small part of Albert Road is all set for a dramatic makeover with the help of Civilisation of the Rough who are putting together some fund-raiser parties over the next few months to raise money for a local artist to paint a mural over some shops. The community spirit on Southsea’s most vibrant street continues to go from strength to strength.
Expect lots more info on both the mural and the parties on here soon and for more info or to get involved hit up the C.O.R. facebook group.

Fireworks Night
Portsmouth’s fireworks night was a little damp but fun. More than a few people (including us) went up to Portsdown Hill for a view of the city, the bonfire, the fireworks and the drizzle

Harbour Tour
If you’re brave enough at this chilly time of year head on down to Gunwharf and take a tour around the home of the modern Navy. With aircraft carriers, the HMS Ark Royal, HMS Illustrious and Invincible, there’s plenty to see. Oh, and they sell beer on board.
Funked on the Fort
5th of December sees another Funked on the Fort at Spitbank Fort out in the Solent, which has to be a unique venue if ever there was one. To buy tickets check the Spitbank Fort website (www.spitbankfort.co.uk) and the event’s Facebook page for more information.
Here is a brief teaser filmed at the last Funked on the Fort:
LJR 2nd Anniversary Good vs Evil party
What a weekend. Halloween on Friday, Good vs Evil on Saturday and Ladyhawke and The Black Kids gig on Sunday. I need some sleep.
The Good vs Evil smash bash at the LJR was killer. Everyone had a blast and the quality of the costumes was superb. Check the read more link for a small selection of photos from the night.
Cheers to the boys at LJR for putting on another great night. I’m off to bed.
