Happy Christmas from Strong Island
Have a great Christmas everyone. No doubt i’ll see many of you out over this boozey period and to those who I don’t see, have an excellent time. Rave safe kids…
Tristan and Paul

Warehaus Studio
Warehaus Studio are an awesome little design studio based a stones throw from the Southsea seafront. You’ve probably seen plenty of their work already on Albert Road, including the windows of Bored and Garbos. To see more of their designs, artwork and photography check out www.warehausstudio.com and the images below.
Peckish
One of Albert Road’s more recent new businesses is the little gem of a sandwish bar/deli called Peckish. Located at the Bored/Little Johnny Russells/Fat Fox end of Albert Road, Peckish’s owner Mathieu makes more than just the usual sandwich choices (although they can be ordered if you like). Sandwiches, baguettes and salads are all freshly made on the spot with deli meats, cheeses and condiments, organic produce and fresh ingredients from Hampshire. Throw in gourmet crisps, fair trade coffee, deli chutneys and meats, delivery service and free WiFi and newspapers and you have one of the best little food stops in Southsea. Strong Island recommends the £3 sandwich deal which includes a bag of crisps, chocolate bar and a can of drink. Hard to beat.

Fort
Found a couple of photos of one of the Spithead forts from the summer. Anyone know what this one is called?

Cinema No.6 – Waltz with Bashir
Ari Folmans groundbreaking animated documentary is visually stunning, highly personal and ferociously honest. I’ve not seen it yet, but that’s what i’ve read and the trailer does that statement justice.
Head over to No.6 Cinema and check the listings which start in January. I’m definitely going to see this.
LJR Christmas Party with Foals DJ set
At a loose end this Thursday. Have no fear. Get down to the good chaps at The Little Johnny Russells and pick up a ticket for their Foals DJ set with residents Red Indie. A nice way to start warming up for the coming weeks. Get involved as always.
LJR Indoor Market 20th December
Gather round ladies and gents, after great success, Little Johnny Russells is hosting its second Indoor Market. There is a wide range of products such as CDs, Records, Vintage Clothing, Prints, Jewellery on sale from Edgeworld Records, Bored of Southsea, Dress Code, Deluded Clothing, Rokii, Style In The City, top fashion queen Beau Franklin Savage, Parmiters Antiques, artwork by Ramsey Sheriff and more.
Opens at Midday, with a wide range of refreshments including a licensed bar (obviously!)
Bog Rolling Stones
You may well have caught the Bog Rolling Stones play at the last Love Albert Road day or one of their many shows before that as they tour all over. Even if you haven’t, trust us, you need to see them play and this month you have two chances to catch them. The first show is an acoustic set in Little Johnny Russells on the 23rd, an amazing warm up for Christmas Eve (will be there, fingers are crossed for some/all of Exile on Main Street). The second show will be part of The Wedgewood Rooms new years eve celebrations and is sure to be good too.
Love Life Quiz Photos
The Love Life charity graphic design and typography pub quiz held in the Fat Fox last night was a huge success raising over £350 pounds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as well as being great fun. The huge pile of awesome design and typography books, prints, magazines, t-shirts and posters as prizes meant most people managed to take something home what with the extra quickfire questions and the raffle.
A huge thanks to the organisers for great evening.

Love Albert Road Day Skating
Bored have put together an edit of the skateboarding that went down on the last Love Albert Road day. The clip includes skating by Bored staff Gary and Toby and Bored team member Jack Tonge.
Strong Island On The Wall
If you’ve recently passed the temporary mural on Albert Road you may have noticed the Strong Island logo that was added recently.
Bored X Strong Island Party Photos Part II
Strong Island and Bored had a small gathering for friends last Thursday and I think Paul said it best with “things got pretty boozey.”
Thanks to Bored, Cafe Citrus and everyone that turned up through the evening and everyone that made it to the LJR after.
Solstice at ARC/Aspex
ARC and Aspex are putting on a ‘Winter Solstace’ party at the gallery for the current exhibit ‘Solstice’ by artist Neeta Madahar and composer Miguel d’Oliverira.
“Filmed during the Summer and Winter Solstices in rural England, Neeta Madahar’s high definition video installation presents an intimate and immersive encounter with ever-changing midsummer and midwinter skies. Accompanied by an atmospheric orchestral soundtrack, Solstice explores time, memory and the cyclical patterns of nature…For each film, a fixed camera was pointed at the sky, with Polaris (the North Star) appearing in the centre of the frame. A team of camera operators working shifts then recorded for 24 hours from midnight to midnight, with the camera on time-lapse mode shooting 25 times a minute. Each hour was condensed into a minute of footage, so, in total, the 24 hours of each solstice were captured in 36,000 stills and subsequently translated into a 24-minute film.”
Sounds amazing as does the party. For more information check out Aspex Events and ARC on Facebook. Be sure to contact ARC on 02392 778080 or resource@aspex.org.uk if you want to go, it’s free but places are limited.
Bored X Strong Island Party Photos Part I
Bored and Strong Island had a low key Christmas party last Thursday night, things got pretty boozy upstairs in Cafe Citrus with skate videos and a bring-your own-ipod music policy. A little after the party moved on to Little Johnny Russells, good times. A big thanks to Bored, Cafe Citrus and everyone who turned up.

Christmas Guildhall Flashmob
Flashmob! What’s that you say? Well a flash mob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual action for a brief time, then quickly disperse.
Students at the University of Portsmouth are holding a Christmas gift swap flashmob at Guildhall Christmas tree on Wednesday the 10th of December, that’s this Wednesday so get on it and check out the facebook group to see what’s going on.

Love Music Hate Racism
A little last minute but if you get yourselves down to Little Johnny Russells tonight for 7:30pm tonight you can catch the Love Music Hate Racism show featuring Bewlay Brothers (DJ set), Curly (acoustic set) and headliners The Racketeers. Donations on the door.
Here is a photo from the Racketeers’ recent Wedgewood Rooms show, taken by Diana Goss.

Southsea Seafront Cycling Improvements
Portsmouth Council is currently looking at ways to improve our cycle facilities and has provided the island with 4 options. You can either pick up a recent copy of Flagship or go straight to their online page and check the proposal options here
If you haven’t already you can then either send out the page to a freepost address or vote online here
We are also running a quick poll on the proposed options which is not in association with the council, but we could forward on:
[poll id="2"]
I couldn’t find a photo from riding on the seafront. At least not a decent one, so here’s a photo from the IOW with Rory from sfgfc

Skatepark Fundraiser Photos Part 2
What an evening! Gambling, art, breakers, friends, messy dancing, eclectic music, putting all my money on red 14, Jim ‘The Price is Right’ Barber, statue guy upstairs, Bored fundraiser room, all the skaters and all the madcap people that made for an amazing night. Well done to everyone who helped put this night together and to all the people who helped raise money by attending.
Even though I said I would only stay for a few I saw things through until the lights came on when the night was over, so excuse the dad cam photos as I got quite involved in the end.
