Bored X Sodavekt

Its taken a while since Bored introduced a new tee, but good things come to those who wait! This tee was deigned by Southsea based designer Sodavekt. It pays homage to one of Southsea’s greatest landmarks – Clarence Pier.

The t-shirts are limited to a run of 25 per colour. We always try to keep it local here at bored and always make sure that a lot of care is taken in producing our product’s, note that all the t-shirts are made in England and are produced using organic fabric, the screen printing is done in South London by a skateboarder owned print studio. The neck labels are embroided by a Welsh family business that have been established for over 100 years then sewn in by a Southsea based company. Seriously, grab one now before they sell out. I’ve got mine, where’s yours?

A walk along Southsea seafront saves lives in India

If you’re planning on taking a stroll on May bank holiday, how about you do it for charity? Maria Lyons, who works at the register office, is organising a ten-mile sponsored walk along Southsea seafront, to raise money for a children’s charity in India and needs many more people to put their best foot forward.

Maria said: “For nearly 20 years, Tripura Foundation has been committed to abolishing extreme poverty. Through programs designed to eradicate hunger, educate children and empower women and girls, they seek to end the cycle of extreme poverty once and for all.

“For the past three years I have organised charity walks and we have raised over £4,000. This money has been used to provide food and education for the girls, but currently the girl’s home is looking to purchase further property as the demand for assistance is always growing.

“This year I would like it to be our biggest group yet and be able to raise funds for this fantastic charity, so if you would like further information or think you could assist us please follow the link below or contact me for a sponsorship form or further details.”

Wayfarers Isle of Wight RANDONNEE Bike Ride

The Wayfarers was founded in 1983 by several like minded individuals who enjoyed the gentle pursuit of cycle touring. Not for these people the hurly burly of road racing or the perilous dangers of Himalayan exploration but rather the enjoyment of a pleasant ride through fine countryside, convivial company and the delights of the ‘tea stop’

I’m really hoping to get involved with this and nail the 100km. It’s my birthday weekend so it could be the ultimate hangover cure, or quite the opposite. We’ll see…

Check out all the info on the Cycle Island Website.

The 2nd Strong Island Ale – Dry Dock No. 1

As you may know each year we run a home brew competition in February where the winning brew has the opportunity to be brewed by Irving & Co Brewing Co. and sold around the city in the summer. Last year’s brew, the Strong Island Hopper Ale, was hugely successful being one of Inving’s best selling ales and selling out so quickly it went through a second brew run. This year’s winning ale is Dry Dock No. 1, originally brewed by Lee Immins, went on sale in some of Portsmouth and Southsea’s pubs over the weekend.

We spoke to The Hole in The Wall in Southsea who said the new ale went down a storm with it being their best seller on Sunday and with almost two barrels empty by the end of the Bank Holiday weekend. Those guys at the Hole in The Wall and their regular ale drinkers know their stuff so for us this was amazing early news with the ale.

To officially launch Dry Dock No. 1 we are having a launch party with the lovely souls at The Belle Isle on Thursday evening. The ale will be on full flow, come down and try a pint or two. As well as being on sale all around the city the ale will also be available in Chichester’s Belle Isle too, so you can drink it away from home for the first time too.

The Isle Of Wight Randonnee 2012 – Team Strong Island

Just over a year ago, a group of Strong Islanders were sat on the Isle of Wight ferry on our way to the yearly Randonnee cycling event; 60 miles around the island spread across 5 checkpoints. Whilst on the crossing we couldn’t help but admire various enthusiasts and their custom team jerseys. Fast forward a year and it is my great pleasure to unveil the Strong Island cycling jersey. Made as a one off for the event, the jersey is our way of representing this city and all the values that come with it. Thanks to the combined designing efforts of Chris Ballingall and Tristan Savage, we were able to produce this clean, retro looking jersey that 11 of Southsea’s finest could wear to conquer the island’s endless hills. Well done chaps.
