Love You Too Premiere @ No.6 Cinema

“Love You Too” is a film about infatuation, desolation and a young boy’s struggle through false hope. Ostracized from the school cliques he falls into a downward spiral triggered by his obsession over a suicide video. His father provides no help; entangled in his own web of sex, lies and addiction. The characters descend further into moral ambiguity and self-deprecation before reaching a harrowing denouement.

The film stars local young actors as well as Nick Thomas Webster (Harry Potter,Sweeney Todd.) and Fiona Ryan (Tv the tudors.) and other professional actors, it was shot all over Portsmouth during last summer and had a budget of just under a grand

The premiere its self is FREE, but we do ask for donations on the door to cover the security. There will be refreshments sold just before the premiere… including alcohol. After the premiere we will be doing a Q+A session with the cast and crew so feel free to ask any question. If you wish to attend just put your name below and how many guests you would like to bring. Hope to see you all there.

The premier screening of Love You Too will be at 18.30 at the NO.6 Cinema, in case your unaware of where that is its in the dockyards where the action stations are (look for boat house number 6).

Miles Davis at the Isle of Wight Festival

Nope, he won’t be playing a posthumous show at this year’s festival, the title refers to the 1970 festival. Although not quite Portsmouth (well, maybe he came through to get the ferry) but I’ve been listening to the live recording of Miles Davis and band from this festival. Despite it being a little before my time I can’t begin to imagine how incredible it must have been to see him play in the flesh (let alone The Doors, Hendrix, etc!) with a crowd of 600,000!

Did anyone here go? Please post your memories. If you didn’t go or were too young have a watch below, the other parts of the performance are also on YouTube too.

Submit Southsea Recipes

We mentioned the Southsea Food Girl blog the other day, Lou is asking for original, local recipe submissions for the blog:

“I started it to share recipes with friends, I would love some recipes from local residents! It has to be there own creation because I’d like to start an online collection of free local recipes, to celebrate our food culture.”

Recipes can be emailed to loubeerocks@gmail.com and will be featured on the site.

Southsea up for auction

Sidetracked on eBay here’s a selection of random bits and bobs I quite liked today. Check out South Parade Pier in flames.

Vintage Photography – Sunny Southsea

Following on from photos of The bandstand and Tennis Courts the other week, here’s another scan from Khalid.

Back before East Jet in the late 1940s, early 1950s people flocked to Southsea seafront. Check the beach huts near Canoe Lake. Dozens of them and the Paddling Pool which is now occupied by the Sealife Centre. Love the little train to the right of the picture. Click for a closer look.

PRIMARY – A Phoneography Exhibition by Strong Island – Call for entries

This coming new year we will be proud to announce our latest exhibition PRIMARY, a Phoneography exhibition by Strong Island and we are even happier to announce that it’s open to you, the readers.

With the continuing increase in impressive camera technology in mobile phones and the ability to alter, tweak, post process and upload the photos to social media networks and websites like Instagram, the popularity of Phoneography has never been greater.

The ‘of the moment’ ability to take a photo at almost any time and any place by most people has really driven the fact that the camera does not make the photographer. By which I mean, you don’t need an expensive camera to take outstanding photos.

Agreed, the quality of the physical image may not stand up to the big guns, but new learnings in composition, style and aesthetic by a new generation of camera users via online media has really driven this popularity, and encourage people to go beyond a ‘quick shot’.

PRIMARY invites you to get out and about around Portsea with your mobile phone camera and take photos of anything and everything based around the three primary colours red, yellow and blue. What you photograph is entirely up to you, but submissions will only be accepted if they stick to the theme.

The call for entires has now begun and the deadline is the 31st of January 2012 with the exhibition being held in March of 2012. Photos can be taken on any mobile phone model and we ask that a maximum of 3 photos per applicant are sent in to primary@strong-island.co.uk.

Please submit along with your photographs your name, photo title, phone model, location of photo on the island and any post process apps you used, if any, to achieve the final shot.

We look forward to seeing all the entries, and the final installation will be something special using every photo submitted in a slightly different fashion from your average photographic exhibition. CLICK HERE TO PRINT YOUR OWN POSTER
