Love You Too Premiere @ No.6 Cinema

“Love You Too” is a film about infatuation, desolation and a young boy’s struggle through false hope. Ostracized from the school cliques he falls into a downward spiral triggered by his obsession over a suicide video. His father provides no help; entangled in his own web of sex, lies and addiction. The characters descend further into moral ambiguity and self-deprecation before reaching a harrowing denouement.

The film stars local young actors as well as Nick Thomas Webster (Harry Potter,Sweeney Todd.) and Fiona Ryan (Tv the tudors.) and other professional actors, it was shot all over Portsmouth during last summer and had a budget of just under a grand

The premiere its self is FREE, but we do ask for donations on the door to cover the security. There will be refreshments sold just before the premiere… including alcohol. After the premiere we will be doing a Q+A session with the cast and crew so feel free to ask any question. If you wish to attend just put your name below and how many guests you would like to bring. Hope to see you all there.

The premier screening of Love You Too will be at 18.30 at the NO.6 Cinema, in case your unaware of where that is its in the dockyards where the action stations are (look for boat house number 6).

To see more details and RSVP head over to Facebook.

Miles Davis at the Isle of Wight Festival

Nope, he won’t be playing a posthumous show at this year’s festival, the title refers to the 1970 festival. Although not quite Portsmouth (well, maybe he came through to get the ferry) but I’ve been listening to the live recording of Miles Davis and band from this festival. Despite it being a little before my time I can’t begin to imagine how incredible it must have been to see him play in the flesh (let alone The Doors, Hendrix, etc!) with a crowd of 600,000!

Did anyone here go? Please post your memories. If you didn’t go or were too young have a watch below, the other parts of the performance are also on YouTube too.

Submit Southsea Recipes

We mentioned the Southsea Food Girl blog the other day, Lou is asking for original, local recipe submissions for the blog:

“I started it to share recipes with friends, I would love some recipes from local residents! It has to be there own creation because I’d like to start an online collection of free local recipes, to celebrate our food culture.”

Recipes can be emailed to loubeerocks@gmail.com and will be featured on the site.

Vintage Photography – Sunny Southsea

Following on from photos of The bandstand and Tennis Courts the other week, here’s another scan from Khalid.

Back before East Jet in the late 1940s, early 1950s people flocked to Southsea seafront. Check the beach huts near Canoe Lake. Dozens of them and the Paddling Pool which is now occupied by the Sealife Centre. Love the little train to the right of the picture. Click for a closer look.

Southsea Skatepark Mini Ramp

Well, my informant might have been a little ahead of schedule at the weekend. Which is a real shame, but by no means a downer. This mini is looking sick already. 30 foot wide and 4 foot high. Perfect for beginners and old dogs alike. Would benefit from a goofy and regular tombstone maybe, or even a channel. Hey, I can’t complain though, this is very exciting.

Sorry Borneo, it looks like the session will have to literally take a rain check, but believe me, the back lip to back smith reverts are coming soon. Photo courtesy of Claire Sambrooks early morning dog walk.

Galleons of Light will be performing tomorrow night at LJRs as part of a free music evening. Galleons of Light includes one of Southsea’s busiest bees Louise Bush and Samuel Carter and his very impressive effects pedals. Should be good. Time Bomb at The Wedgewood Rooms

“Just to let you all know that my band ‘Time-Bomb‘ are playing at the Wedgewood Rooms on Friday 26th February. We are supporting the fantastic 8 piece Portsmouth Ska Band ‘Orange Street’ who play a fantastic set of Ska Covers (Madness, Bad Manners etc).

We will be providing our hard hitting Mod/Ska set with numbers from the likes of The Jam, The Who, The Small Faces, The Specials, (and any other band with ‘the’ in the title!), and our own material. The night will then be finished off into the early hours with Dj’s playing similar music.

This all for the tidy sum of just £6 in advance. Tickets can be bought from the venue ticket office (across the road from Wedgewood Rooms) in Southsea or through their website wedgewood-rooms.co.uk

This is our first time playing at the Wedgewood rooms so your support would be welcomed and I am confident if you like Mod or Ska Music or just a night out with live bands you will not be dissapointed. Cheers, Guy Cowmeadow.

Coming soon to Palmerston Road, Southsea

As sad as the loss of a once national retail treasure is it really good to see that the empty Woolworths on Palmerston Road in Southsea has a new owner. Portsmouth City Council has agreed a lease on the property for an exciting new state-of-the-art library, contact centre and café is coming to the heart of Southsea’s shopping centre.

The building will be re-developed to create a library, IT learning zone, community space for local groups, contact centre for council services and café. We hope that the new library, contact centre and café could attract almost 80,000 visitors a year. This is an increase of 16,000 on the number of visitors to Elm Grove library which will be closed as part of the scheme.

Councillor Lee Hunt, Member for Culture and Leisure said: “This is a once in the lifetime opportunity to relocate a library into the heart of Southsea. The IT learning zone, community space and café will also broaden the range of services available to all members of the community who live in or visit the area.”
