BMX
Vintage BMX From 1985
Southsea Skatepark has had a long and strong history with BMX as these clips from the King of The Skatepark competition back in 1985 testify. The footage is of Craig Campbell and Neil Ruffell making the bowl look positively tiny and easy to ride. Which it certainly isn’t.
Always loved Skyway. Iconic logo too.
King Kong Wedge:One
You might remember the King Kong event at the skatepark back in the autumn of last year (our photos are here and here), it was really successful and raised a lot of money for the skatepark. On Friday 12th March the next King Kong event will this time be at The Wedgewood Rooms with a line up including music and an indoor mini ramp. Yes. Indoor. Mini ramp. Doors open 8pm-2am (U18s allowed 8pm-12). Tickets are £5, £6 on the door.

King Kong: More Photos
Just heard that the King Kong event at the skatepark was attended by 350-400 people on Sunday, the busiest it has been in a long while, plus a fair bit of money was raised to help support the park and make some much needed repairs. Here are some photos from the day, you can see more over at Forever Circling.

Nike Tunnel Jam
Okay, it’s not on the island, but it’s definitely worth a mention. Held in a once secret location in Petersfield Nike 6.0 have built the mother of all indoor parks on the South Coast. Now I don’t admit to knowing an awful lot about BMX, but I do know what’s sick. And this park is one of the sickest I’ve ever seen. Shame it’s BMX only. Check out the video of the competition last weekend. Tailwhip peg grind down the ledge is something else.
I did post a video link here but the original link no longer exists and has been taken down for some reason. Sorry about that. Heres the original teaser.

Mark Webb – Full English
Effraim has sent us through some more BMX footage, this time of Southsea very own Mark Webb. We did a post on Mark before, a short film entitled Mark by video students from Portsmouth University.
I’m not sure what the background for this footage is, but it’s off the hook. This guy kills it. Check out the slow motion 900 on the quarter pipe. Nuts.
Southsea Sessions
A little Easter flatland session with Effraim Catlow and Pete Hollinger down at Southsea Skatepark. Cheers for the video link Effraim. Crazy skills. I can hardly even wheelie so I stick to skids and riding real fast…..

Mark – A short film about Mark Webb
Most people who live in Southsea that either skate or BMX know who Mark Webb is. Video students from The University of Portsmouth have made an RTS award winning mini documentary simple titled ‘Mark’. Even if you’re not into BMXing you should check it out. The guys just nuts on a bike…full stop!
