Civilisation of the Rough

Cancer Research Fund Raver…

What are you doing Saturday 5th December? If you’ve got a blank space in you diary then perhaps we could entice you along to a wicked little one off tear up that is being hosted at the Fat Fox in our beloved Southsea village to raise some festive funds for the uber worthy and equally uber brilliant Cancer Research UK. Pencil it it in now.

For the frankly pittance door tax of just £3 you get to feast your ears on some of Southsea’s finest acts and collectives for your party pleasure and knees up delectation…

Hearts Of Oak (performing LIVE), Kry Wolf, Handsome Dave Rocker, Mr Bevis (Southsea’s Beat Box supremo), Gentle Bren, Tombola, Agi al, Sager and as if that weren’t enough to pull you away from X Factor… COR’s Very Own Mark Persaud & Rosko Siffredi will be playing.

Feeling Rough?

Those crazy Civilisation Of The Rough cats never stop. I swear they’re not human.

Rosko Siffredi has kindly pulled together a rather tasty nu-disco mix with delicious Deep House edge for your aural consumption. Also, if you’ve not had chance already, there are still mixes available from COR stable mates Mick Hood and Matt Seeney, as well as guest mixes from Lloyd & Faz at Nocturnal. All mixes are FREE to stream or download. CHECK ‘EM

They’ve also recently released a series of tees. Take your pick over at the store and wear with pride at the next COR smash bash. WEAR ‘EM

Future SoirĂ©e’s will be BIG. More details coming soon, but clear ya diaries for the end of Nov, Boxing Day and NYE. Keep upto date on their blog. READ ‘EM

Keep up the good work guys and I’ll party with you again soon. Bonkers that lot…

A quick reminder, Civilisation of the Rough are once again pushing the boat out this weekend with TWO parties over the Love Albert Road weekend. Saturday sees (no pun intended) The One Eyed Wedding, the Ceremony starting at 7.30pm sharp at The Disused Church on the corner of Albert Rd/Victoria Rd South which is the meeting point —then onto the Wedding Reception at The One Eyed Dog from 8pm till 2am when the party begins. The wedding DJs will be Mick Hood as The Bride, Mr/Ms Kerry ”Wogan” as The Groom and Leon Windsor presiding over the ceremony as The Arch Bishop of Newport.

On Sunday the COR wil be hosting the Love Albert Rd Day *OFFICIAL* Closing Party at The One Eyed Dog, kicking off from 7pm. The special guest for the night will be Simon Young (Fabric, Manumission, Shrunken Head) and the COR residents will be lending a hand.

As per usual tickets are ÂŁ5 from HEAD in Albert Road and will need to be grabbed ASAP as COR events are always heaving. For more information hit up the Facebook event and www.c-o-r.co.uk.

COR Monthly Chart

Each month COR will be putting up tunes that are rocking it for them in that particular month, with links to listen to all the tunes and to buy them when available. Where this differs from other charts is it’ll be a mixture of new AND oldies! The monthly chart for August is now up on the COR website (www.c-o-r.co.uk) and be sure to subscribe to their RSS feed to keep track of their event news and the new charts right when they are posted up.

Speaking of COR events, they’ll be doing their usual Friday evening residency in Cafe Citrus on Albert Road this week as a warm up for Sunday’s big Bank Holiday Weekend COR with Greg Wilson, which is unmissable. Will see you there.

New COR Website

COR

COR & Greg Wilson

Civilisation of the Rough are all set to return to the Southsea Social Club on Sunday the 30th August (the bank holiday weekend) and this time they will be back with Greg Wilson who seriously shook the Wine Vaults to pieces last time. COR will be kicking off at 2pm until 10pm and as now tradition, the event will be fancy dress, this time the club will be transformed in to a hospital A&E so hunt down your stethoscopes and smocks, matron is coming.

Tickets are ÂŁ5 and available in HEAD as always. No doubt this will sell out so get in quick.

The 2nd Strong Island Ale – Dry Dock No. 1

As you may know each year we run a home brew competition in February where the winning brew has the opportunity to be brewed by Irving & Co Brewing Co. and sold around the city in the summer. Last year’s brew, the Strong Island Hopper Ale, was hugely successful being one of Inving’s best selling ales and selling out so quickly it went through a second brew run. This year’s winning ale is Dry Dock No. 1, originally brewed by Lee Immins, went on sale in some of Portsmouth and Southsea’s pubs over the weekend.

We spoke to The Hole in The Wall in Southsea who said the new ale went down a storm with it being their best seller on Sunday and with almost two barrels empty by the end of the Bank Holiday weekend. Those guys at the Hole in The Wall and their regular ale drinkers know their stuff so for us this was amazing early news with the ale.

To officially launch Dry Dock No. 1 we are having a launch party with the lovely souls at The Belle Isle on Thursday evening. The ale will be on full flow, come down and try a pint or two. As well as being on sale all around the city the ale will also be available in Chichester’s Belle Isle too, so you can drink it away from home for the first time too.

The Isle Of Wight Randonnee 2012 – Team Strong Island

Just over a year ago, a group of Strong Islanders were sat on the Isle of Wight ferry on our way to the yearly Randonnee cycling event; 60 miles around the island spread across 5 checkpoints. Whilst on the crossing we couldn’t help but admire various enthusiasts and their custom team jerseys. Fast forward a year and it is my great pleasure to unveil the Strong Island cycling jersey. Made as a one off for the event, the jersey is our way of representing this city and all the values that come with it. Thanks to the combined designing efforts of Chris Ballingall and Tristan Savage, we were able to produce this clean, retro looking jersey that 11 of Southsea’s finest could wear to conquer the island’s endless hills. Well done chaps.
