This summer Community Fusion is teaming up with Hilsea Lido Pool for the People Trust to put on a family event to raise funds to support both community projects within the city.
On Sunday 14th August, the partners will be hosting an afternoon of entertainment for all the family to enjoy. With live music from Huw Olesker, Luke Ferre, Lonely Joe Parker and Hannah O’Reilly there will be something for everyone to enjoy. The event, which runs from 1-6pm, boasts a magician, face painting, raffle and cakes as well as various stalls from local artists and businesses. Throughout the event there will be a variety of food sizzling away on the BBQ, available to purchase at competitive prices. You and your family can enjoy a refreshing drink on a summer’s day at the iconic Hilsea Lido site.
They are also interested to hear from local knitters who may wish to Yarn Bomb some of the site. Please contact Jenna Boyson if you are interested – jenna@communityfusion.co.uk
There will be no charge for entry but all donations will be welcome. All money raised will be split between the two organisations that will put it to good use within the community.

“Both organisations are keen to work together, bringing volunteers to the Lido to help restore, redecorate, revive the venue and bring it into the 21st century while keeping all the features of the art deco structure. Opening the site for public use is the ultimate aim and together with all other partners we will do this.”

Hilsea Lido Pool for the People are collaborating with Portsmouth City Museum to create an exhibition to celebrate 75 years of Hilsea Lido. If you’ve got memories, photos, your granny’s old swimsuit or swimming cap or anything that you feel recreates the glamour & fun of Hilsea Lido in the past they would love to meet up with you! Exhibition organisers will be at Portsmouth City Museum on Sunday 27th June between 11am-4pm.

Portsmouth City Council have decided that Hilsea Splashpool is “life expired” & therefore they will not be opening it for the 2010 season. They are currently considering the future of this space. An option they are keen on is to demolish the splashpool and replace it with a water play park, similar to those recently constructed in Southsea. Their argument seems to be that the splashpool costs money to maintain, whilst the play park will cost much less – no need for water treatment or lifeguards.
Hilsea Lido Pool for the People have suggested that Portsmouth City Council should consult with the people who use the splashpool to find out what they want for the future of that space and have created a website to encourage everyone to join the debate. Tell them what you want – is it the traditional splashpool or a water play park? What improvements could be made to the site?
