PCM Affordable Art Sale at Bonzo Studio – Review

Portsmouth Creative Movement and friends held their affordable art sale at the Bonzo studio on Albert Road over the weekend. Originally planned for Saturday the sale ran on through Sunday and is also open today too. The studio side of Bonzo was home to over ten different artists, photographers and craftpersons showcasing their affordable work on the main walls and on some of the desks. The walls were in essence a mini exhibition but this time with works ranging in price from £100 all the way down to a pocket money £4, ensuring every visitor spent plenty of time taking everything in and most likely going home with a few choice items. All the artists were also available for a chat too about their work, process, cat flea treatments and so on.

Hopefully this event will return sooner rather than later and if you have time you can still nip down there this afternoon and maybe get involved. Props to Bonzo and PCM and all involved in making this event happen.

Portsmouth Creative Movement did some work up at Wimbledon Park the other day, Claire Sambrook was there to take some photos of the new work in progress. More can be seen here (plus links to the artists themselves).

PCM in The News

Portsmouth Creative Movement had themselves some great coverage in The News last week about the Hope Street hoardings. Look out for these guys, their working hard to enhance areas of the city that get ignored, as well as creating amazing individual and collaborative pieces of art. More to come very soon.

The Hope Street Hopefuls

This Saturday and Sunday saw the Portsmouth Creative Movement and associated friends get busy on the derelict land hoarding at Hope Street. The PCM group and Sifer Design gained clearance from Portsmouth Council (who also donated £1000 worth of paint) to paint the whole thing, and believe me, it’s not only freaking huge, but very impressive. Seriously, go check it out.

Anything but your normal ‘street artists’ the PCM are really making a name for themselves in and around city with work going up everywhere. Look out for future events including a collaboration piece with myself and a few members down at Southsea Skatepark.

PCM Free Art Giveaway – Video & Photos

Sunday’s Portsmouth Creative Movement Free Art Giveaway at the skatepark went down really well, lots of art was picked up and the skatepark had a huge facelift from all of the graffiti and stencil art. On top of that the event raised money for the Skatepark fund. Awesome work by Lex, Elmo and everyone at PCM plus all of the artists and Southsea Skatepark.

Check for loads of photos on the PCM Flickr group plus the ones below taken by Elmo. Also check the video too.

The next Portsmouth Creative Movement’s Free Art Giveaway is quickly approaching, it’ll be on Sunday the 30th August at Southsea Skatepark on the Common. Building on the huge success of previous projects and events over the last couple of years, this one is all set to go to the next level. With loads of incredible artists involved (both local and from all over the country) not only providing pieces of art (including – stencils, graffiti, stickers, water colours, acryllics, paste-ups, photography and pencil) free to everyone but also getting involved with a live stenciling and graffiti event and art workshops.

If you want a sneak peak at the work that will be available check out the Flickr Group for this PCM event, plus there is still time to submit work if you are quick, check the Flickr group discussions for all the details. Also check the Flickr group for the full list of artists involved with the event.

P.S. If that wasn’t enough the event will also see the first unveiling of all the deckchairs from the Deck Your Chairs project – so you can check them all out and purchase the one(s) you love most.

FREE ART – Portsmouth Creative Movement

The FREE Art drop organised by The Portsmouth Creative Movement was a great success this Saturday gone. We all met up at The Fat Fox during a sunny afternoon and basically turned the old abandoned Reform Church directly opposite into one huge gallery wall.

There was a steady pace of art going up from all the members and by the next morning on my return everything had gone to new homes.

Features

PRIMARY – Extended & Improved

We have some great news about our PRIMARY phonography exhibition (find out all the details here) that we can now announce:

- The deadline for submissions has now been extended to Sunday 4th March. We have had some incredible submissions but want to set aside more time to make the exhibition something really special.

- The competition is now open to up to 10 submissions from each individual. With the ability to capture many photos on your phone over the next two months we we want you to not feel restricted to just three. The same rules apply about the photos conforming to compositions using the primary colours though. If you have already submitted feel free to send more photos over as and when you please.

- The exhibition will be hosted by Albert Road’s own Bonzo Studio who are also partnering up with us in the creation of the exhibition space. More news on this soon!

- Finally, we will be running a competition as part of the exhibition where the best three photos submitted will win some incredible prizes. We will be announcing the prizes available very soon but got to say, these will be the best prize haul we have ever offered.

- We will be putting together a poster for the exhibition that will be on sale on the opening night. The poster will feature some of the best submissions and all profits from the sales will go to a local charity (details to follow soon). Due to this we need to say that any photos submitted to PRIMARY will involve you giving us permission to use them for commercial purposes, if you do not want your photo used in this way simply let us know via email.

Well, that is it for now! We really hope to drum up as much coverage locally for PRIMARY in the next couple of months so if you could Facebook/Tweet/+1 about the exhibition we would really appreciate it. We would love this exhibition to be a real reflection of the whole population of Portsmouth with everyone taking part and feeling involved.
