Portsmouth FC

Vintage PFC Clacker

Spotted this antique Pompey football clacker in the window of Robert’s in Castle Road yesterday, looks like it has seen a fair few games and no doubt makes a royal racket too.

1930s Fratton Park

I found this interesting aerial photo of Portsmouth Football Club’s Fratton Park the other day, showing much of the local area as fields back in the 1930s. The ground itself has much smaller stands and you can see the train line and station. Photos like this show just how much the city grew and became populated in such a short time.

Also, notice how few cars there are too…

1929 FA Cup Final Footage

I posted a while ago footage of Portsmouth FC’s 1939 FA Cup win over Wolves.  Someone has brought to my attention from the same Guardian feature, footage from the 1929 FA Cup final between Portsmouth FC and Bolton Wanderers.  Sadly for Pompey that day they went down 2-0.

Portsmouth Win The 1939 FA Cup

This archive footage was brought to my attention recently of Portsmouth FC winning the 1939 FA Cup at Wembley.  100,000 people made up the crowd to see underdogs Portsmouth overcome Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-1.  The commentator is everything you’d expect from that era with the best reference to the Wolves goalkeeper being ‘as busy as a flea at a party’.  John Motson eat your heart out.  Whether a fan of the team or just being interested in Portsmouth history, this is a great little find.

Pompey Trust

I always freely admit to not knowing a single thing about football, but everyone I know follows Pompey and shows great passion for them, which in turn makes me proud. I’ve even signed up to the Membership Trust and handed over my hard earned cash to help. You too can help by joining up HERE.

The following is a quick message from Ben Mills who words it much better then myself from a fans point of view. “Our aim is to bring about responsible, democratic representation at Portsmouth Football Club and so help promote the highest standards of transparent governance, accountability and embed Portsmouth FC deeper into its community through greater communication and co-operation with its fans.”

Play Up Pompey

Things are pretty bleak for Portsmouth FC at the moment with today a particularly fraught day in their finances. The supporters groups have arranged a protest march in Portsmouth before the next game (Birmingham City this Saturday – 16th) that starts at the Guildhall at 1pm or Milton Park at 2:15pm, the march will then walk to Fratton Park. The march is open to everyone wishing to show support to the team and also protest against the current financial situation. Find out more at the Facebook group.

Features

PRIMARY – Extended & Improved

We have some great news about our PRIMARY phonography exhibition (find out all the details here) that we can now announce:

- The deadline for submissions has now been extended to Sunday 4th March. We have had some incredible submissions but want to set aside more time to make the exhibition something really special.

- The competition is now open to up to 10 submissions from each individual. With the ability to capture many photos on your phone over the next two months we we want you to not feel restricted to just three. The same rules apply about the photos conforming to compositions using the primary colours though. If you have already submitted feel free to send more photos over as and when you please.

- The exhibition will be hosted by Albert Road’s own Bonzo Studio who are also partnering up with us in the creation of the exhibition space. More news on this soon!

- Finally, we will be running a competition as part of the exhibition where the best three photos submitted will win some incredible prizes. We will be announcing the prizes available very soon but got to say, these will be the best prize haul we have ever offered.

- We will be putting together a poster for the exhibition that will be on sale on the opening night. The poster will feature some of the best submissions and all profits from the sales will go to a local charity (details to follow soon). Due to this we need to say that any photos submitted to PRIMARY will involve you giving us permission to use them for commercial purposes, if you do not want your photo used in this way simply let us know via email.

Well, that is it for now! We really hope to drum up as much coverage locally for PRIMARY in the next couple of months so if you could Facebook/Tweet/+1 about the exhibition we would really appreciate it. We would love this exhibition to be a real reflection of the whole population of Portsmouth with everyone taking part and feeling involved.
