Southsea Skatepark Merchandise

Southsea Skatepark is now operated by Southsea Skatepark Company, a registered charity set up by a small group of park supporters to take over the park from Portsmouth City Council. They hold the park on a 60 year lease from the council and have an Agreement which includes a reducing revenue subsidy for the first 5 years. To carry out the large scale improvements needed to make the park viable in the longer term, they are seeking grants and sponsorship.  If you have any good ideas, we’d like to hear from you via their website.

You can also Support Southsea Skatepark by buying a selection of hats, stickers and tee shirts, ideal Christmas gifts. These are now available to buy at the skatepark. See the website for opening times and directions – http://www.southseaskatepark.com/

Prices – All hats in various styles and hand knitted – £5, Stickers 40p each or 3 for £1, Tee Shirts – £15.

More exciting products will be available soon.

Tearing Down The House – Roller Hockey Club

It has been on the cards for a while now but finally yesterday the old Roller Hockey Club House at Southsea Skatepark was torn down. It had become unstable and hadn’t been used for a while. I was lucky enough to gain entry back last year and took a few photographs. If anybody has any old photographs of the club house seen in better times then please let us know.

Free Art and Live Painting Event at Southsea Skatepark

Lots of exciting plans at the Skatepark so watch this space.

This photo of Cody taking a leap of faith form the club house roof has always been a winner in my book.

King of Southsea

The old King of Concrete competition was a highlight in the Southsea events calendar for years and drew BMXers from all over the country, Europe and further afield all to Southsea Skatepark (and Southsea pubs and Chaos too…). After a break the big summer BMX contest is now back with King of Southsea on 28th and 29th August.

The weekend will be packed with different events and no doubt Southsea’s strong BMX scene will be heavily representing with the ridiculously talented local riders.

To find out more check the blog and see the poster below.

Blueprint Demo

Last Tuesday saw Britain’s best skate company Blueprint Skateboards hit the south coast, first with a demo with all the team at Emsworth skatepark then a signing and product raffle at Bored before the first regional premiere of their new video ‘Make Friends With The Colour Blue’ in Little Johnny Russells. A huge thanks to Bored and Blueprint in arranging this awesome day.

The demo itself saw some incredible skateboarding and Tom from Bored managed to capture some of it on video. In the next day or two we’ll have photos from the day and their are already some over on the Blueprint website to check out as well.

Snow and Skatepark

I’ve put up some snowy photos of Southsea skatepark over at Forever Circling, they were taken back on Wednesday when the snow was heaviest.

Southsea Skate Jam – King Kong

The skate session at the park today went off. So much went down it was insane. Jak, Clilverd and Noddys vert session was pretty special. Awesome to see the vert ramp skated. It’s so battered and old. Borneo destroyed not only the park but himself. Backside ollie from the quarter to the vert wall is always a treat to watch. Noddy (I think that was his name) dropped in from the club house vert wall. Seriously sick. Adam’s buttery skills and backside 360 kickflip over the driveway was insane and Jak’s double kickflip took the biscuit. Co-organiser Codys noseslide along the whole driveway ledge and down across the end block was a huge crowd pleaser. Clilverd was robbed trying to cab the driveway and bust himself up pretty bad.

Just a taster of went went down today. I left before the results as I was really hungry but Paul was taking photos as well so expect some more coverage and results later in the week. For now you can check out a few more photos on my Flickr. Oddly, the first skate photos I’ve taken since the early 90′s.

PRIMARY – Extended & Improved

We have some great news about our PRIMARY phonography exhibition (find out all the details here) that we can now announce:

- The deadline for submissions has now been extended to Sunday 4th March. We have had some incredible submissions but want to set aside more time to make the exhibition something really special.

- The competition is now open to up to 10 submissions from each individual. With the ability to capture many photos on your phone over the next two months we we want you to not feel restricted to just three. The same rules apply about the photos conforming to compositions using the primary colours though. If you have already submitted feel free to send more photos over as and when you please.

- The exhibition will be hosted by Albert Road’s own Bonzo Studio who are also partnering up with us in the creation of the exhibition space. More news on this soon!

- Finally, we will be running a competition as part of the exhibition where the best three photos submitted will win some incredible prizes. We will be announcing the prizes available very soon but got to say, these will be the best prize haul we have ever offered.

- We will be putting together a poster for the exhibition that will be on sale on the opening night. The poster will feature some of the best submissions and all profits from the sales will go to a local charity (details to follow soon). Due to this we need to say that any photos submitted to PRIMARY will involve you giving us permission to use them for commercial purposes, if you do not want your photo used in this way simply let us know via email.

Well, that is it for now! We really hope to drum up as much coverage locally for PRIMARY in the next couple of months so if you could Facebook/Tweet/+1 about the exhibition we would really appreciate it. We would love this exhibition to be a real reflection of the whole population of Portsmouth with everyone taking part and feeling involved.
