Last month we embarked on our first Strong Island photo shoot for our new Summer tee shirt colourway, red. Now, I say photo shoot, it was more like just going out and having a laugh with mates. No pro set ups. Just a 35mm camera, a little point & shoot, 2 willing participants in Alanna Smith and Pete Miles, lovely weather and some unique locations. The new tee is simply a reverse of the Winter tee with the logo on the back and the anchor logo on the front. This seasons must have, obviously….
First up is the disused Greyhound Stadium in Tipner on Target Road. A very well known location, even if you don’t know how to get there and have only seen it from the M275. Now in complete disarray the track offers some amazing photographic opportunities and is full of character behind all the smashed glass and burned out rooms.
Click on the cover images below to see both Tristan and Pauls lookbooks, then make sure to head over to the newly opened shop and buy a tee HERE.

After visiting the Greyhound Stadium we headed to The Bridge Tavern for a few beers whilst we waited for Ben Mills to come and pick us up and take our small crew out in to The Solent. I’ve always wanted to go and get up close to the forts and buoys and the fact that both Alanna and Pete were up for a bit of ‘off boat’ photography made for a great shoot.

The much anticipated Durty 45 tees featuring designs by top Southsea artists has arrived. First up is the ‘VIVA DURTY 45′ tee designed by Tristan Savage of Strong Island. The series of tees are for the Durty 45 Bus to raise money for No More Durty Water. The Durty 45 Bus will be appearing at festivals, and VW shows this summer, starting with Camper Jam. They will go on sale at Durty 45 – No More Durty Water Fundraiser on Friday April 1st at Little Johnny Russells. We shall be selling them for introduction price of only £10 on the night. So get yourself there to grap one, before they are gone. Watch this space for more designs in the series. They are going to be Hot! Hot! Hot!
D U R T Y 4 5 returns to Little Johnny Russells for another off the hook party in aid of NO MORE DURTY WATER. No More Durty Water is a campaign to help provide safe and abundant water for the people of the world. Clean water is a basic human right and it is essential for the health of our species.
This year we are working closely with Bridge Of Hope Children’s Ministry to fund water based projects for a Children’s village in Uganda. We already raised £1,500 towards two 5,000 litre rainwater harvesters for the 2 children’s bungalows. We need another £700 to complete and install the two tanks. Then the water will need to be tested, and the community trained to make sure the water remains safe. So we are asking the Southsea Village to come together again to finish this project.
Come along and listen to tunes you grew up with, wish you had and will always love. This is about great music, not guilty pleasures. Expect a party extravaganza with a soundtrack to rival most. Deejays Macaco Do Paolo & Che Sirena de Niebla play the finest selection of vinyl 45s. With special guest Ms Mono (Big Chill Bar)
Entry Fee is a Donation on the door and you will be able to show your support, by buying DURTY 45 BUS & NO MORE DURTY WATER t shirts, badges & stickers, plus there will be a raffle. Come along.
Bored have updated their look book with their new Mizzenmast tee designed by our very own Tristan Savage. The tee is now available in store and online.

I was lucky enough to work on another tee design for Bored on Albert Road recently. Here’s a little teaser they dropped on their blog. More info soon.

Continuing the Your Twenty Four series my day started with streams of beautiful sunlight coming in through the dining room window. The perfect morning to accompany my regular 8 mile commute to work through Southsea and out along the Eastern Road. A relatively relaxed day at work was nicely broken up with a ride to The Royal Oak pub on Langstone Harbour and then a short jaunt back in to Southsea to the Portsmouth Fish Market and Eastney Marina. After finishing work I went straight to the Art & Design Degree Show at The Eldon Building. I was a bit pushed for time so I only got to hang out at my old course Communication Design and meet friends/tutors new and old, as well as sink a few beers of course. Congratulations to Mikey, Brendon, Jenna & all the graduates. A lot of goodbyes later I stopped home briefly to pick up Liz and head on down to The Belle Isle for their opening party. Huge thanks to all the guys and gals involved. We’ll be doing a little feature on The Belle Isle soon. After last orders we got dropped of on Albert Road and took advantage of another hours bar time at LJR before heading home. Phew… check the full 24 Photo Edit HERE and the full 24 Hour Edit HERE.
We are looking for contributions for future Y24 posts so if you are up for documenting your day please get in contact.
Me and Andy went on a short bike ride this afternoon in a vain attempt to keep out of the pub and work off our hangovers. It was pretty fresh out to say the least and although it felt like it was doing us good our bodies were really crying for a hair of the dog. Needless to say we failed, but at least we did something instead of stewing on the sofa. Now off to DJ Format. Coming?
A few more random snaps from today are over on my Flickr.
Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

We have some great news about our PRIMARY phonography exhibition (find out all the details here) that we can now announce:
- The deadline for submissions has now been extended to Sunday 4th March. We have had some incredible submissions but want to set aside more time to make the exhibition something really special.
- The competition is now open to up to 10 submissions from each individual. With the ability to capture many photos on your phone over the next two months we we want you to not feel restricted to just three. The same rules apply about the photos conforming to compositions using the primary colours though. If you have already submitted feel free to send more photos over as and when you please.
- The exhibition will be hosted by Albert Road’s own Bonzo Studio who are also partnering up with us in the creation of the exhibition space. More news on this soon!
- Finally, we will be running a competition as part of the exhibition where the best three photos submitted will win some incredible prizes. We will be announcing the prizes available very soon but got to say, these will be the best prize haul we have ever offered.
- We will be putting together a poster for the exhibition that will be on sale on the opening night. The poster will feature some of the best submissions and all profits from the sales will go to a local charity (details to follow soon). Due to this we need to say that any photos submitted to PRIMARY will involve you giving us permission to use them for commercial purposes, if you do not want your photo used in this way simply let us know via email.
Well, that is it for now! We really hope to drum up as much coverage locally for PRIMARY in the next couple of months so if you could Facebook/Tweet/+1 about the exhibition we would really appreciate it. We would love this exhibition to be a real reflection of the whole population of Portsmouth with everyone taking part and feeling involved.

Righto chaps, it’s time to clean shave your boat race and get that mighty moustache on the grow in support of Movember for The Prostate Cancer Charity and the Institute of Cancer Research. For 30 days of November you can help support and raise awareness through selflessly parading your top lip for charity.
You can sign up yourself, as I’m sure many of you already have, or you can join the Strong Island team and seek out sponsorship as a team. Through the Strong Island Movember page you can ask people to join the group, make donations, upload photos and post updates via the MoSpace page, Facebook and Twitter.
Head over to www.mobro.co/StrongIsland if you would like to get involved and grow a Strong Moustache to help raise awareness, or simply head over to www.uk.movember.com and sign up to personally raise money.
The funds raised in the UK support the number one and two male specific cancers – prostate and testicular cancer. The funds raised are directed to programmes run directly by Movember and our men’s health partners, The Prostate Cancer Charity and the Institute of Cancer Research. Together, these channels work together to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world-class programmes in line with our strategic goals in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.
