We will have loads of photos and stories from Sunday’s hugely successful Strong Island Bike Ride and to get started we have some huge panoramics taken by George Crick. Sadly we can only show some of the small versions here that do not do them justice so be sure to visit George’s website to see the all of the photos in full size, and spot yourselves in there!
George’s panoramics will be available to buy in Wallspace Gallery in Albert Road from Saturday for a bargain price of just £35.

I was lucky enough to be asked by Matt Sills and James Porter to help design a new sign for The Wallspace Gallery on Albert Road. After working through various designs and meetings with everyone the sign evolved into something I think none of us expected. Based on James’s original 3D idea the sign morphed into multiple angles and finishes. The outcome looks amazing I’m sure you’ll agree, but don’t let the images fool you. It has to be seen in person to really appreciate all the angles, curves and reflections.
Thanks to Matt for the opportunity and to James and his Crew for building and installing the next level of Albert Road signage. Those boys really know what their doing when it comes to bespoke design.
Wallspace Gallery can be found at 2C Albert Road, Southsea.

Good friend of Strong Island and many Southsea locals, Mikey is quite the talent. He’s always been into art, design, photography, fashion, skateboarding, music and well, let’s just say all the cool stuff. He recently began his second year in Graphic Design (Communication Design) at Portsmouth University and he’s killing it.
Matt Sills from the Wallspace Gallery has helped Mikey produce 3 prints, on sale now, of which the ants ‘Tower Block’ is a limited run of 100 Giclee print and the others, ‘Do You Dream’ and ‘Love Life’ are open edition screen prints.
Get down Albert Road and grab yourself one of Mikeys prints. Seriously, these are like hotcakes I’m sure of it. Oh, and pop past The Little Johnny Russells Market on your way and grab some bargains.

A familiar and friendly face around Albert Road, Diana Goss is a freelance creative portrait photographer with her own studio and whilst based in Southsea is often found all over Portsmouth as well as Bournemouth and Brighton too. Specialising in both Fashion and Boudoir work (see www.laboudoir.co.uk), and going by her website (www.notmagnum.co.uk) and Flickr obviously enjoys any type of people portraiture both in the studio and outside at such events as Goodwood Revival, music shows, weddings and even equine work. Not only that but you most likely have seen a few of her common props around town, a 1960′s Bentley, a 1955 Oldsmobile in red with red leather seats and a 1960′s red Pontiac!
Some of Diana’s work is available in Albert Road in Matt Sills’s Wallspace gallery (you may have also picked up a few free prints during the last Albert Road day) and if you’re interested in any commission work such as model shoots and portfolios, event photography or are interested in modelling for one of Diana’s photography projects give Diana a shout via email.
This is a cross processed film shot Diana took of the Wallspace Gallery with her namesake camera, a Lomo Diana and below that are a few more examples of her work:

The new Wallspace Gallery is hosting a launch party in the upstairs of Vines on Albert Road on Monday 8th. The evening will feature music and artwork by four featured artists and photographers, Daniel Tidbury, Lorna Apps-Woodland, Matt Sills and Simon Whitcomb.
Wallspace Gallery is the small but perfectly formed gallery space and store at 2C Albert Road, be sure to pop in and check out artwork by these four artists and many other local and talented painters, designers, photographers and illustrators.
We are very happy to announce the details for our Primary exhibition, with it’s preview night on Friday 1st June at Bonzo in Albert Road. We had well over 500 submitted photos by well over 100 different local photographers, all using their mobile phone cameras and an assortment of different apps like Instagram, Camera+, etc. The exhibition format itself will be something new and previously unseen in Portsmouth in this form and we will be unveiling the winners of competition too, with loads of photography related prizes. There will also be food, drink and some surprises we’ll let you know about nearer the time. This may well be one of the largest community arts projects to happen in the city in relation to the number of people who actively participated and we really hope everyone can make it down to see this absolutely unique view of our city and it’s people.
If you cannot make it down on Friday the exhibition will run through the whole of June so be sure to pop along. After the exhibition we will have an online, interactive gallery of all of the images to form a legacy to the project.

As you may know each year we run a home brew competition in February where the winning brew has the opportunity to be brewed by Irving & Co Brewing Co. and sold around the city in the summer. Last year’s brew, the Strong Island Hopper Ale, was hugely successful being one of Inving’s best selling ales and selling out so quickly it went through a second brew run. This year’s winning ale is Dry Dock No. 1, originally brewed by Lee Immins, went on sale in some of Portsmouth and Southsea’s pubs over the weekend.
We spoke to The Hole in The Wall in Southsea who said the new ale went down a storm with it being their best seller on Sunday and with almost two barrels empty by the end of the Bank Holiday weekend. Those guys at the Hole in The Wall and their regular ale drinkers know their stuff so for us this was amazing early news with the ale.
To officially launch Dry Dock No. 1 we are having a launch party with the lovely souls at The Belle Isle on Thursday evening. The ale will be on full flow, come down and try a pint or two. As well as being on sale all around the city the ale will also be available in Chichester’s Belle Isle too, so you can drink it away from home for the first time too.
