Wine and Design

On Thursday the 16th of June, students from BA Illustration at The University of Portsmouth are holding a fundraising event to help raise funds for their attendance to New Designers. See their degree show website here - http://www.envf.port.ac.uk/illustration/IP/2011/

New Designers is a graduate fair held in London every year. It provides an opportunity for recent graduates to display their work, and for the art industry to survey and celebrate the newest talents.

Entry is free and there will be live music from local bands, as well as a raffle with prizes donated from various Albert Road shops and establishments such as The Kings’ Theatre, Flo & Stan’s and Dead Man’s Glory. They also have a Facebook Page.

Love Through the Lens

The Wine Vaults in Albert Road will be hosting ‘Love Through the Lens’, a collective photography exhibition of work by 9 aspiring local photographers. As students on the course ‘A Photographic Journey into Commerce’, they have produced this show as a response to their chosen theme of ‘Love’. The exhibit opens on Saturday (21st) and will run for a week and is free to view. For more info check the Facebook event.

It’s a pound per player to enter (max six players in a team) and the prize pot is already at £150 plus there are booze prizes too and a half time buffet not to mention every time wins a prize at the end. The Quiz starts at 8pm in our Main Bar, Pool Room and Mezzanine Area (upstairs) and is hosted in our Continental Beer Bar so there is plenty of room. For more info check the Facebook event.

Civilisation of the Rough

What a weekend. COR and DJ Derek. Who could ask for more really. Oh, maybe loads of snow.

Huge thanks to Tim from Head Hairdressers and one part of the COR Collective for hooking up Strong Island, and I must say thanks to Mark Persaud as I’ve pinched his photos from the evening as mine were far too dad cam after countless Jack & Cokes.

As always we’ll keep you posted on further developments with anything COR related.

We must also say big thanks to the boys at The Little Johnny Russells who always welcome us through their doors. DJ Derek is truly an experience to be a part of.

Cheers

COR & The Floor

A quick reminder that Civilisation of the Rough’s third party with Bill Brewster is tomorrow night, although it is now sold out. Some interesting news concerning the Wine Vaults, due to the heavy duty dancing of the last two parties the upstairs floor was officially deemed sketchy by a structural engineer so COR (with some help from Strong Island) sorted out a brand new dance floor (see below). It turns out that the damage from the previous parties (literally) bringing the house down was worse than expected so in a unique, one off event the COR party will be held downstairs in the Wine Vaults on Saturday night with the usual pub regulars going upstairs…it’s going to be special. See you there.

P.S. For a warm up COR and Mick Hood have put together a mixtape named ‘Cloak Room Cutz’, download it here and get the tracklisting and artwork here.

Dance Floor

Ha, Paul literally got there just before me on this post. I rode past The Vaults on my way to work this morning to take a photo of the Strong Island X James P X COR window art. Really came out a treat. Check it out during the day at The Wine Vaults on Albert Road.

Features

PRIMARY – Extended & Improved

We have some great news about our PRIMARY phonography exhibition (find out all the details here) that we can now announce:

- The deadline for submissions has now been extended to Sunday 4th March. We have had some incredible submissions but want to set aside more time to make the exhibition something really special.

- The competition is now open to up to 10 submissions from each individual. With the ability to capture many photos on your phone over the next two months we we want you to not feel restricted to just three. The same rules apply about the photos conforming to compositions using the primary colours though. If you have already submitted feel free to send more photos over as and when you please.

- The exhibition will be hosted by Albert Road’s own Bonzo Studio who are also partnering up with us in the creation of the exhibition space. More news on this soon!

- Finally, we will be running a competition as part of the exhibition where the best three photos submitted will win some incredible prizes. We will be announcing the prizes available very soon but got to say, these will be the best prize haul we have ever offered.

- We will be putting together a poster for the exhibition that will be on sale on the opening night. The poster will feature some of the best submissions and all profits from the sales will go to a local charity (details to follow soon). Due to this we need to say that any photos submitted to PRIMARY will involve you giving us permission to use them for commercial purposes, if you do not want your photo used in this way simply let us know via email.

Well, that is it for now! We really hope to drum up as much coverage locally for PRIMARY in the next couple of months so if you could Facebook/Tweet/+1 about the exhibition we would really appreciate it. We would love this exhibition to be a real reflection of the whole population of Portsmouth with everyone taking part and feeling involved.
