Ye Olde Bike Shoppe – Southsea Series Episode 4

All round nice guy and proprietor of Ye Olde Bike Shoppe in Southsea, Stuart ‘Beast’ Trett is the focus in Wide Aperture Media’s latest episode in their ‘Southsea’ series of short films.

Beautifully shot and edited, this look in to Stus Bike Shoppe and his personal thoughts and aesthetic surrounding bikes is a real insight in to small local businesses that support the creative scene and their whole mentality as to why they do what they do.

You can view the rest of the series HERE, and if you’re in the market for a new ‘old’ bike, or just what to have a chat and see what’s on offer then drop Stu a line via Facebook and pop in for a coffee and discuss his taste in tee shirts.

Ye Olde Bike Shoppe : Penny-fathing the City

Stu at Ye Olde Bike Shoppe recently made his way around Southsea and the city on a precarious old penny-farthing bicycle, the very same bike which forms part of the Bike Shoppe logo. Following Stu with her camera was local photographer Emma Trinder capturing Stu at some of the city’s landmarks on his tour.

Below are a few photos from the ride and you can see more HERE.

New Ye Olde Bike Shoppe Ride

As well as being busy building custom bikes for many Southsea residents Stuart has also been spending the last 6 months working on his own personal labour of love, which he finished the other day. Got to love the chrome.

If you are after a vintage bike customised to suit you get in touch HERE.

Ye Olde Bike Shoppe

Stu Trett has photographed every single person that has been to his Olde Bike Shoppe over the past year. 100′s have passed through the doors. The Facebook page has all the info needed so if your bike needs some love stop by and enjoy a cuppa and be rest assured that it will be restored and treated with all the care and attention it needs. You can drop your bike off and collect the following day or he is offering the service to collect and deliver for free within PO5

Ye Olde Bike Shoppe

Somewhere in sunny Southsea is a wonderful place called Ye Olde Bike Shoppe. It’s run by Stuart Trett and is just an amazing space and a bike lovers haven.

It has only been open for 6 weeks and Stuart is keen to service and provide loving care to your bike. Known for a while in the cycling circles of Portsmouth they have started by word of mouth and reputation means a lot enabling them to grow even more. All types of bikes are catered for and they will even give it some bling and customise it exactly to your own individual needs. They have a workshop, garden and the toilet is a joy to use as it’s filled with ‘bike love’ statements written with a sharpie on the walls. There are big future plans but that’s all hush hush at the moment.

Click the video image below for a taste of the place and for further details contact Stuart Trett on 07887 973 014 or email : stutrett@yahoo.com

They also have a Facebook page and make sure to check out the Flickr set for more pics as well.

Stu also donated bikes to the Strong Island Raffle on September 30th at Belle Isle. What a nice guy.

Ye Olde Bike Shoppe – Tour de Trett

Yesterday was a delightfully sunny day for a bike ride and that’s exactly what a few of us did.  Stuart who has just set up Ye Olde Bike Shoppe has now moved to a new workshop in Southsea after very quickly out growing his last one.

To mark his move he organised one of his ‘Tour de Trett’ cycle rides, this time involving the 14.2 mile round trip of Portsea Island.  This is not to be a one-off either with Stuart planning to host a ride once a month in conjunction with Ye Olde Bike Shoppe, taking up a different route each time.  Keep posted on Stuarts Facebook page for details on future rides.

If you are interested in anything bicycle related be it repairs, restoration or just want to get advice or exchange tips, Stuart can be contacted on 07887 973014 to arrange a meeting.

Features

PRIMARY – Extended & Improved

We have some great news about our PRIMARY phonography exhibition (find out all the details here) that we can now announce:

- The deadline for submissions has now been extended to Sunday 4th March. We have had some incredible submissions but want to set aside more time to make the exhibition something really special.

- The competition is now open to up to 10 submissions from each individual. With the ability to capture many photos on your phone over the next two months we we want you to not feel restricted to just three. The same rules apply about the photos conforming to compositions using the primary colours though. If you have already submitted feel free to send more photos over as and when you please.

- The exhibition will be hosted by Albert Road’s own Bonzo Studio who are also partnering up with us in the creation of the exhibition space. More news on this soon!

- Finally, we will be running a competition as part of the exhibition where the best three photos submitted will win some incredible prizes. We will be announcing the prizes available very soon but got to say, these will be the best prize haul we have ever offered.

- We will be putting together a poster for the exhibition that will be on sale on the opening night. The poster will feature some of the best submissions and all profits from the sales will go to a local charity (details to follow soon). Due to this we need to say that any photos submitted to PRIMARY will involve you giving us permission to use them for commercial purposes, if you do not want your photo used in this way simply let us know via email.

Well, that is it for now! We really hope to drum up as much coverage locally for PRIMARY in the next couple of months so if you could Facebook/Tweet/+1 about the exhibition we would really appreciate it. We would love this exhibition to be a real reflection of the whole population of Portsmouth with everyone taking part and feeling involved.
